General impressions of Lisbon, a city of wealth and poverty

When visiting Lisbon, you need a good pair of walking shoes because the city is built on a hill, climbing is unavoidable. The monuments and churches are extraordinary, many houses have a facade one can only dream of, shops sell wines, port, exclusive cloths and jewellery. The rich side of Lisbon.

Occasionally to give your feet a time out, you can take one of the charming small trams, a tuk tuk or tower elevator to make it to the next attraction in this interesting city.

There is also a down side of Lisbon, you really feel poverty has hit this region hard. Some houses are screaming for paint or the roofs are damaged. Many people are homeless and beg in the streets, at churches or shops. Washed cloths hang outside the windows drying and some still go to community areas to manually clean their clothes. A hard confrontation of a city in difficulties.

You should really win a prize or something for this, Your best post ever...for the two stories it tells. The sad dog in the unpainted window, all the laundry hanging out..... BRAVO!!!!

  6. sounds as if this is a city of much contrast. Almost sounds like Puerto Rico when we were there, and the architecture and landscape looks similar too. Your photos are lovely FIlip! I am wishing you and Kristel a wonderful Christmas holiday filled with family and beauty! looking forward to all of your 2014 travels. I only think I need your job with all of your holiday time. Blessings to you from Texas
